It
might be hard to believe after this crazy election we've just endured,
but more and more Americans are getting... sexier, not less sexy.
I can remember when I first got on AOL in 1997 and discovered the
chatrooms. Holy moly... it was like my head imploded!
Before I knew it, I had
discovered the web. For me, that meant not only surfing tons of
porn sites, but also teaching myself how to be a webmaster. However,
in terms of my *sex*, it meant reading, looking, experiencing, and
oh dear heaven an awful lotta masturbating in a computer chair which
is indeed an awkward proposition. Before long I'd plunged headlong
into some crazily intense BDSM adventures, after which I ventured
into swing and escorting. All because of the Internet.
I was a horny slut long
before the Internet, of course, and I would've found my alternative
sexuality eventually regardless... I really do believe that. But
I also believe that the Internet saved me years of misery and that
wake up moment of being 45 years old and realizing that you've never
really enjoyed sex, that something huge is missing from your existence
and leaving you incomplete.
It's
not like the Internet corrupted my poor, wittle brain (shout out
to South Park!). I would've found all of these things eventually;
the Internet just made it easier and safer than ever before possible.
I could explore any crazy kink or sex experience that came to mind,
without ever leaving the comfort of my home. I could talk to potential
play partners and get tons of information about them prior to meeting,
which, using your head, can make your sex experiences much, much
safer than previously possible.
As an example, when I
first tried escorting there was no Internet. I was 21, had no clue,
and a g/f and I decided to try it on a random whim. Very, very random!
The only option we were aware of at that point was to pick up the
yellow pages and call a number, ask for a job. This meant not only
working for someone else, but not knowing at any given time what
situation you were walking into. It meant having no recourse at
all to protect yourself and minimize your risks. I hated working
for an agency and only lasted three days. I felt way too vulnerable
and out of control! Nothing like now.
It would be easy to say
that I'm the exception, but I'm not. Not even close. More
like the rule. Without fail, in every community I've ventured into
(and that really is saying a lot), I hear the same story over and
over again. "I found it on the Internet and started exploring..."
Almost word for word. And part of the beauty of the Internet is
that it's just as easy to explore a fantasy and discover that it
is not for you, without ever having put yourself in any risky situations.
Of
course, as with anything, there are downsides. Just like in the
real world there are predators out there, and hunting for victims
on the Internet is easier and safer too... just like everything
else. You have to use your *brain* in any and everything you do.
The Internet cannot save you from risk, and might push you
into it by putting your desires into overdrive. But if you can keep
your wits about you long enough, you can venture out on a journey
of your own. The Internet gives you a outlet to explore
whatever, whenever, however, with whomever you like... and that
is what sexual freedom is all about.
